While they re sneaking around in the underbrush they tend to find ways to creep into homes. Because they need water daily they tend to nest where water is readily accessible. Needless to say the rest of the vacation was not that great. They do not go into hibernation at any time of the year not even during the winter season or the summer season.

In fact on a recent vacation we had at least 2 rats living in the attic. The first we knew about it was when we looked between 2 chairs in the dining room and saw it looking up at us. If you have rats in the attic do not think they will stay there and not visit the rest of the house. They can also be found in the attic where mice are living and exploring.

Rodents are already naturally drawn toward structures because of their smell and the cover they provide. Roof rats aka black rats often build nests in attics. Rats are not exception in this as they usually get so busy in running around in search of food. When you do a search for mouse droppings do a search for nests as well.

The best way to get rid of rats and mice is to use the classic wooden snap traps or bait traps. Mice can cause issues in the summer in your home as well. This spring and summer population growth can lead to a larger issue during the winter months as they are looking to move to a safer place to live like your home. But droppings don t appear only in your kitchen.

Rats in the summer summer is always the dry season and always the busiest time for both human and wild animals.
